Own a Piece of TV History as SATC’s Iconic Apple PowerBook G3 Hits the Auction Block

The actual custom Apple PowerBook G3 laptop wielded by Sarah Jessica Parker in her iconic role as Carrie Bradshaw on HBO's groundbreaking series, Sex and the City, is hitting the auction block.

This remarkable artifact, a testament to the show's cultural impact, is set to be a centerpiece in Julien's Auctions upcoming Hollywood Legends auction from December 14-17, which takes place both in Beverly Hills and online.

The Apple PowerBook G3, a symbol of early 2000s tech sophistication, served as Bradshaw's on-screen writing companion as she penned her tantalising columns that became a narrative heartbeat of each episode. The laptop, not merely a prop but a functional piece of television history, comes with a surprising revelation, “One of the most famous Apple laptops in television history was also discovered to be custom programmed to hammer out her memorable articles at the mashing of any keys on the keyboard,” explain the auction house.

For fans who yearn to own a tangible piece of Sex and the City's legacy, this auction provides a rare opportunity. The starting bid range has been set between $800 to $1,200 dollars (£630 to £950), making this iconic device more accessible than one might imagine, considering its intrinsic value as a cultural artifact. However, it is estimated to fetch up to $7,000.

As the gavel descends, the laptop's new owner will not only possess a coveted relic from a global phenomenon but also a portal to the era when Sex and the City redefined television and fashion, leaving an indelible mark on popular culture.

”This lot includes a PowerBook laptop and two power adapters. Included is a note from the property master explaining that this was one of two Powerbooks used by Sarah Jessica Parker on the show, with the other in the collection at the Smithsonian,” Julien’s explains on it’s official auction site, “Prepared articles remain on the functioning laptop and printing written instructions are included which explain how to access these files to replicate the typing of articles and searching of information seen in the show.  As an example, accessible from the home screen is a vintage-era Google search circa Season 6 for "Aleksandr Petrovsky," entries, special files, and articles from different episodes throughout the series. “

The PowerBook G3 was a series of laptop computers produced by Apple from 1997 to 2001. It was notable for its sleek design and was one of the first laptops to use the PowerPC G3 processor. It was known for its innovative features, making it a popular choice among professionals in the late 1990s.
