Twitter is testing "vanishing" tweets like SnapChat and Instagram Story

#RIPTwitter has been trending on the platform.

This is because of the announcement Twitter made on Wednesday, which reported that the firm is currently testing a feature that will allow tweets to disappear after 24 hours. Currently Twitter has only rolled out the function in Brazil.

This new feature is called "fleets" and has been compared to the ephemeral content you see on Instagram Stories and Snapchat. #RIPTwitter is the result of users complaining that the new feature would make the platform too similar to other social media platforms, and is un unnecessary change to the micro-blogging site.

Twitter have said that the new feature would enable people to post tweets that they would have felt uncomfortable sharing permanently on the public forum, which intimidates some of its users.

Kayvon Beykpour, who is the product lead at Twitter wrote a seven part thread explaining the decision saying "We’re hoping that Fleets can help people share the fleeting thoughts that they would have been unlikely to Tweet. This is a substantial change to Twitter, so we’re excited to learn by testing it..."

Fleets will only appear when an account's profile picture is clicked (think Instagram Stories.) The main difference between fleets and other social media platforms is that users won't be able to reply to the disappearing messages.

Users have taken to the platform to vent their frustrations...

But seriously when will they add an edit button?
