Balenciaga just found a use for your old USB cables

Remember when everyone started using Nike shoelaces as chokers in 2016? This is the 2020 version of that

The Balenciaga Autumn/Winter 2020 show just demonstrated a brilliant way to reuse your old, broken and unloved (until now) USB cables. Hairstylist and contributing beauty editor for Dazed magazine Holli Smith used bobby pins and white charging cables to adorn the models’ slicked-back chignons, creating an unexpectedly wearable look.

The show had post-apocalyptic elements throughout, centred on the water-filled runway with a digital ceiling that projected doomsday scenes of storms and catastrophic weather elements, including fire and smoke. Throughout the show there were many nods to the ‘end’ of technology: for instance models wore T-shirts featuring a ‘no connection’ WiFi symbol, and carried their phones down the runway. Make-up was minimal, with the focus on the hair and repurposed USB cables.

Balenciaga just unwittingly proved that if the end of the world does come at least our technology won't be rendered completely useless – provided you want wear it in you hair that is.
