Nike acquire Metaverse shoemaker ‘RTFKT’

Nike acquire shoe brand RTFKT, both companies create shoes, but RTFKT’s shoes are only available to wear in the Metaverse.

Nike had described RTFKT as “a leading brand that leverages cutting edge innovation to deliver next generation collectibles that merge culture and gaming.”

This move has been speculated to give Nike a launch into the Metaverse. RTFKT have already amounted a success with a collaboration with artist FEWOCiOUS, in which they created physical trainers, as well as NFT’s to go along with them. The collaboration. was a raging success, selling 600 pairs and NFT’s in just 6 minutes, making $3.1million. This hit the market at the right time, before NFT’s had fully blown up via social media. The items now arena worth as much, but the hype at the time make them a hot commodity.

Just yesterday, RTFKT launched the Clone X NFT project with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami which offers users Metaverse ready styled avatars wearing collectible items.

The RTFKT website promote users to link their ‘Metamask wallet’ which is a way NFT users can verify their purchases with the idea that in the future you’ll play games or enter other VR spaces where your items can occur in reality, once those spaces have read the blockchain to assess which items you own the rights to.

This digital vision is something brands like Nike are buying into, as they see the potential in revenue the Metaverse holds.
